Within luminous watercolor washes and strokes of the brush, the viewer can find the fascination and reverence Karyn has for wildlife and nature. Born in Idaho with abundant access to wilderness and wildlife, Karyn has spent much of her life exploring the great outdoors. Her artistic style brings to light the complexities of the natural world –the tangle of the web of life. Expressive poses, dramatic mood and a textural sense of fur and feather capture the heart and soul of her subjects. She enjoys bringing to light the beauty and significance of even the most common, overlooked creatures. Her paintings express a quiet stillness and the peace of an unobtrusive observer.
Karyn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boise State University with emphasis in watercolor. Her art has been juried into local shows - at times winning awards. In 2012 Karyn earned signature membership to the Idaho Watercolor Society and Artists for Conservation (an international organization of nature artists dedicated to conservation www.artistsforconservation.org) Her work has been selected in the America's Parks Art Exhibit of 2013. She has lead children's painting projects for The Peregrine Fund's Vulture Awareness Day. The Idaho Bird Observatory sought her talent to create a painting of common migrating songbirds for use as a printed mural and teaching aide. Picture This Frame Shop and Gallery in Boise, ID currently represents her work.
As an outdoor adventurist, Karyn enjoys activities and opportunities to be immersed in nature. The Boise foothills, Yellowstone National Park and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area are some of the many places she loves to frequent. She enjoys wildlife watching, hiking, biking, and xc-skiing. Her adventures include: A citizen science Earthwatch trip 'Helping to Save and Study Leatherback Turtles' in St. Croix, a Boise State University Raptor Ecology study trip to Kenya, Africa and personal explorations to New Zealand, Costa Rica, Belize and Alaska.
