9th World Wilderness Congress - Seven days that will change the world

Fine Print Imaging president Mark Lukes has been selected to deliver two conservation related presentations at the 9th World Wilderness Congress being held in Merida, Mexico, from November 6 - 13. Sponsored in part by the Wild Foundation and Unidos para la Conservacion, the World Wilderness Congress is the longest-running, public international environmental forum.

WWCs include senior-level representation from governments, the private sector, native peoples, non-governmental organizations, academia and the arts in a structure carefully designed to bring together the full spectrum of wilderness-related views.

Mark’s first presentation, Focusing on a younger generation of conservationists: Emerging Photographers, features the amazing stories of five young photographers under the age of 30 who are already at the forefront of conservation activism. His second presentation, Great Old Broads for Wilderness: Baby Boomer Conservation Photography Activists, focuses on an organization of 3600 mostly 50 something women who have discovered that their age lends a special power to their conservation voice.

Presenters in the main program include such notables as Dr. Jane Goodall; Filipe Calderon, President of Mexico; Jim Prentice, Canadian Minister of the Environment; Amory Lovins,
Chairman and Chief Scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute; and Stephan Harding,
Gaia theory expert.

Formed in 1977, the World Wilderness Congress convenes every three to four years in different locations around the world. Past WWCs have been held in South Africa (1977, 2001), Australia (1980), Scotland (1983), USA (1987, 2005), Norway (1993), and India (1998).

In addition to being president and founder of Fine Print Imaging and Art for Conservation, Mark Lukes is the founding president of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), the founding president of The Center for Fine Art Photography and currently serves on the executive committee for the International League of Conservation Photographers.
