Connie Tom
"Painting.... It's like 'Fire in the bones!'" says artist Connie Tom. The desire to express the insurmountable majesty, power and beauty of the Creator in His Creation is the strength of the passion that drives Connie Tom to paint the landscapes she paints today.
Having done many in-depth studies of the original and revered Hudson River School master artists and their philosophies, she now incorporates the techniques she learned into her present day subject matter. As with them, so with her...light, color mood and atmosphere are of major importance in her work, Connie is fast becoming known for her luministic landscapes. She capitalizes on sunrises and sunsets. Autumn with all its joyful, warm and luscious colors is her favorite season to paint. Her faith plays a big part in her life and in her art.
Her work has been in the Limited Edition Art Shopper's Guide of Southwest Art Magazine. She has taught many national seminars and authored four painting instruction books. She has painted in oils for over 20 years and has exhibited in such professional shows as The Western and Wildlife Art Collector's Exhibit. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the NOAPS (National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society). She is currently represented by the Fredericksburg Art Gallery in Fredericksburg, Texas. Her paintings are in many private and corporate collections, both nationally and internationally.
When Connie was still a child, her father sometimes had to take jobs away from home to support his wife and children. Being one of five siblings, her sister and her, being the two eldest, took on extra responsibilities of the home and farm. Her sister took more of inside the home duties, while Connie took more of the outside chores. It was during this time outside, Connie learned to appreciate the blessings of our great wonderful outdoors and such simple pleasures as the sweet smell of fresh country air, the sunrise, the morning fog, the sunsets, the clouds and all the atmospheric conditions of the sky that she paints today. So painting to her is a way to bring the out-of-doors inside the home.
Her goals and desires are to always improve and perfect the talents and gifts she has been given. To create a legacy of beautiful paintings that will not only be uplifting to the viewers, but also will bring a message to the spirit... beyond just the subject matter, and bring honor to God by fulfilling the destiny He has created for her.
