Aloha! Welcome to Honu Kai Images by M.S. Immings!
My name is Michael Immings and I am pleased to call Hawaii my home. I developed a love for Hawaii’s marine environment at a very young age and have been a certified SCUBA diver since 1989. Growing up in Hawaii has provided me a special kinship with the ‘aina (land) and I believe that it is our responsibility to protect it for future generations.
I attended Central Michigan University for undergraduate studies, and then Western Kentucky University for my M.A. in Communication. While I enjoyed my time on the mainland, Hawaii will always be home and I was very excited to find a job that allowed me to return. I currently reside in Manoa, Hawaii, which is just a few miles away from Waikiki and have been married to my beautiful wife, Natalie, since 1998. Natalie is a local school teacher and class advisor.
Living in Hawaii, I have developed a passion for photographing the wonder of these beautiful islands. From the unspoiled North Shore of O’ahu to the beautiful waterfalls on Kaua’i to the amazing sunrises over Mt. Haleakala on Maui, these islands are an amazing canvas to capture with my lens! My collection of images represents all of the islands, as each island has unique energy and personality.
There are a few things to know about these images. First, with the exception of Blue Hawaii, these images are completely natural. I do not Photoshop or significantly enhance my images with digital manipulation programs. For underwater shots, I do run a color, contrast, and levels filter over the digital image to restore the true color of the image, but I do not enhance single pixels or otherwise manipulate my images. I believe that the images speak for themselves and I strive to show nature’s beauty as I see it through my camera’s lens.
I enjoy photographing honu (endangered green sea turtles) and endangered humpback whales. I believe that showing the beauty of these animals is key in promoting the protection and conservation of their environments.
I am very excited to partner with this website and share their vision of conservation and protecting our marine environments and mammals! I am a proud member of the Pacific Whale Foundation, located in Maui, Hawaii.
I have been very fortunate to have been able to photograph these magical islands and look forward to sharing the wonder and beauty of God’s creation with you!
