Artist Statement
"This is what I believe: We are not separate from nature – if we slow down, listen and observe, we can learn many things about ourselves and find meaning in life. Animals and plants have wisdom that can benefit us if we only open our hearts and minds to what they have to say. In our culture we are perpetually distracted, and every year our lives become more complicated – we run faster and faster to get nowhere, and yet are unaware because of the distractions of modern life.
I try to keep my paintings simple to allow the viewer to slow down and look deeper and discover the nurturing and healing rhythm of the universe. The animals I paint seem to want to communicate with the viewer; as if they are messengers that come into our lives to help us navigate the world we live in."
Kate Dardine paints a variety of subjects centered around her love of the natural world and her quest to understand humankind's real purpose. Through her imaginative use of color and composition, Kate gives a contemporary voice to traditional subjects.
Painting in both pastels and oils, Kate's work is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. When not painting, Kate enjoys riding her horses, playing with her dogs and exploring the "road less traveled."
Kate is an associate member of the Women Artists of the West and is a member of the Artist Association of Northern Colorado. She is represented by the Link Gallery in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Old Town Art and Framery in Fort Collins, Colorado.
